NCAA BASKETBALL 2012 – FEB 01 – Delaware triumph over George Mason 65-60


Mason could not overcome a double-digit first half deficit Wednesday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.

Mason (18-6, 10-2 CAA) saw its six-game win streak come to an end, as the Blue Hens (11-12, 6-6) earned a season split in the series.

Senior Ryan Pearson led the Mason offense with a game-high 25 points and had a team-best eight rebounds.

Delaware Freshman Kyle Anderson was on fire in the first half going 4 of 5 from beyond the arc.

Delaware held off Colonial Athletic Association league-leader George Mason down the stretch for a 65-60 victory at the Bob Carpenter Center.

Mason will look to return to the win column with a sold-out Homecoming date with Old Dominion on Saturday afternoon.

Delaware will return to action Saturday when the Hens travel to James Madison for a 2 p.m. showdown with the Dukes.

Shaka Smart and the VCU Rams defeat Delaware 68-55


When was the last time you seen a team go scoreless for  8:58 minutes? Delaware failed to score on its first 13 possessions of the game, going 0 of 11 from the field. How do you expect to win a game playing godawful basketball like that? It’s enough to make you sit back and scratch your head and wonder, Nevertheless The University of Delaware couldn’t recover from that dreadful start and VCU used its bench to power ahead.

VCU’s defensive intensity was evident right from the start of the game when they kept Delaware without a point for the first 8:58 of the contest, VCU Senior Bradford Burgess led the rams with 18 points, while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out two assists, Sophomore Juvonte Reddic had 11 points and nine rebounds and four other Rams scored nine points.

Forward Josh Brinkley recorded his second double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, junior forward Jamelle Hagins finished the game with his 10th double-double of the season scoring 10 points and grabbing 14 rebounds, Notwithstanding sophomore guard Devon Saddler added 10 points.

The Blue Hens will travel to George Mason on Jan. 18 and host an upstart Georgia State squad on Saturday at the Bob Carpenter Center, VCU will return home for a three-game homestand beginning with a Thursday night date with in-state rival William & Mary on ESPNU and game is at the Verizon Wireless Arena schedule for 8 p.m.

NCAA BASKETBALL 2012 – JAN 11 – Old Dominion Defeats Delaware 68-66 in OT


Senior Forward Chris Cooper #20 who hits the game winning shot in overtime to defeat Delaware 68-66 in a Colonial Athletic Association Conference Basketball Game at Delaware Wed, Jan. 11, 2012 at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark Delaware.

Brinkley posted his first career double-double as he scored 16 points and pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard Devon Saddler added 16 points but junior forward Jamelle Hagins, who entered the game averaging 14.6 points per game, was held scoreless.

Old Dominion Guard Kent Bazemore scored 27 points and 12 rebounds to lead Old Dominion while Old Dominion Freshman Forward Richard Ross added 14 points and Old Dominion Senior Forward Chris Cooper contribute 14 points and 10 Rebounds.

NCAA BASKETBALL 2012 – JAN 04 – Delaware (6-7, 2-1 CAA) defeats Hofstra (6-9, 0-3 CAA) 67-66


The University of Delaware junior forward Jamelle Hagins poured in a career-high 21 points and pulled 18 boards, Delaware freshman Kyle Anderson scored a career-high 17 points and junior guard Devon Saddler chipped in with 14 points and four assists.

Hofstra Moore scored 24 points to lead Hofstra while Nathaniel Lester added 15 points and 11 rebounds, McLendon contributed 11 points, and Stephen Nwaukoni pulled down 12 rebounds before fouling out.

Forward Rahlir Jefferson-Hollis led the Owls with 13 points and eight rebounds, Anthony Lee added a career-high 12 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks, Juan Fernandez contributed 11 points, and Ramone Moore chipped in with 10 points and a game-high six assists.
