Delaware Shuts Down Norfolk State


04/14/2010 Newark DE, Delaware Field: The Blue Hens hosted Norfolk State in a doubleheader, Delaware is coming off a 2 out of three weekend series against the Georgia State Panthers, This is the eighth meeting between the schools Delaware has won 7-8 against Norfolk State University, The Blue Hens took game one by the score of 3-2.

In game number two the Blue Hens stuck first scoring in the bottom of the third inning as Delaware out fielder Rachel Jones singles to right field Scoring freshman Jenny Richards, Norfolk State Changes pitchers replacing Junior Alyssa Velazquez with Elizabeth Castaneda for an unknown reason.

Fast forward to the sixth inning when Jenny Richards singles to left field scoring Samantha Pettie putting the up 2-0, in the bottom of the sixth inning sophomore Amanda Stacevicz carried a no-hitter into the top of the seventh, the sophomore quickly retired the first two Spartans. However Norfolk State senior Rebecca Barnes would break up the no hitter by drilling a pitch over the head of Jenny Richards in centerfield to give Norfolk State’s it’s first hit of the game, notwithstanding Amanda Stacevicz would recover to get Jeanette Sauceda to line out to center field to end the game and post her third shutout of the year.

Delaware will head to Wilmington North Carolina to face UNC Wilmington in a three-game series, The Blue Hens will attempt to gain some ground in the Colonial Athletic Association this weekend, Norfolk State will travel to Orangeburg, S.C to take on South Carolina State in a double header Saturday April 17th at 1pm.
