Butch Lewis Remembered

Boxing promoter and manager Butch Lewis was remembered today at a funeral service at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington. The Rev. Al Sharpton delivered the eulogy, and a host of celebrities and dignitaries attended Actor Denzel Washington; retired boxer Mike Tyson; author and radio host Michael Eric Dyson; actor Robert Townsend; Debra Lee, CEO of BET Holdings; Robert Johnson, founder of BET; Kweisi Mfume, the former president of the NAACP and a former Maryland congressman; retired boxer Michael Spinks; actors Tim and Daphne Maxwell Reid; Judge Greg Mathis; director John Singleton; Sylvia Rhone, president of Universal Motown Records; Clinton Young, mayor of Mt. Vernon, N.Y.; actress Lynn Whitfield; Jamie Foster Brown, publisher of Sister 2 Sister magazine; former New Jersey boxing commissioner Larry Hazzard; and Morehouse College President Robert M. Franklin.
