NEWARK, DE – February 26, 2016, – The Delaware 87ers were defeated 132-114 by Raptors 905 in front of 2,766 fans on super hero night at the Bob Carpenter Center Friday night in their final meeting of the regular season between the Raptors 905 and the 87ers. Delaware as lost seven consecutive game, with their last win dating back to February 3rd when the 87ers travel to Erie, PA and defeated the Bayhawks 100-97. With thirteen games left in the regular season the 87ers are on the outside looking in, in terms of a playoffs.
Christian Wood led the 87ers (17-20) with 29 points on 11-of-23 shooting from the field and a team-high nine rebounds. Russ Smith had the Delaware’s only double-double with 24 points and 12 assists, and the recently reacquired Jamal Jones posted 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting off the bench.
Raptors 905 (14-23) received a double-double from Greg Smith who totaled 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting while snatching 13 rebounds. Scott Suggs produced a team-high 25 points on 8-of-10 shooting, and made all five of his attempts from beyond the arc. Sim Bhullar also had a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds, and Axel Toupane added 23 points in the win.
Jones, who played 46 games for the Sevens last season, scored 10 points on four consecutive possessions to put the 87ers up 32-30 at the end of the opening period.
In the second quarter, Raptors shot 70 percent, going 14-of-20 from the field, and the hosts took a 70-54 lead into halftime.
Smith and Wood had nine points apiece in the third quarter, but still the 905 still held a 98-84 lead entering the final period.
In the fourth quarter, Smith hit 4-of-7 field goals, and 6-of-7 free-throws for 15 points and dished two assists, but it wasn’t enough to mount a comeback.
The 87ers will travel to face the Canton Charge on Sunday, Feb. 28, with tip scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET. Raptors will continue their road trip when they face the Erie BayHawks on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 2:00 p.m. ET.
